Provisioning in Powell River

All you need to know about Provisioning in PR

If you are arriving by air, ground transportation options are limited:  taxi, bus, car rental or walking.   It is 2.7 kilometres to the marina and it is all downhill.   Rental Cars are available from PractiCar and Budget 604-485-4131. There is one taxi service in town, Powell River Taxi 604-483-3666.   There are only a few cabs, so it is best to call ahead to make a reservation.  BC Transit provides bus service with the Upper Westview route serving the airport.   The service is infrequent with arrivals between 30 minutes and 90 minutes depending on the time of day.   This bus will take you to Town Centre Mall.   You can then transfer to the Grief Point route and get off at the BC Ferry terminal.   It is around two blocks to the marina.

There are plenty of options for shopping.   You can choose from  two supermarkets Quality Foods, Save on Foods both located near the bus stop at Town Center Mall.  Within walking distance of the marina is  a local butcher,  The Chopping Block.    The Chopping Block provides quality meats, in house made sausages, prepared meals, and seasonally locally grown organic vegetables.   Give them a call at 604-485-4838 and they will prepare a package for pickup.  The butchers are friendly and knowledgeable.   Dukes Liquor is right next to the ferry terminal.   They provide excellent service with a good selection of wines, beers and spirits.   If you are not from BC, be aware that adult beverages are heavily taxed and therefore quite expensive.  You can also get ice and some mixers at Dukes.

Marine Traders is an excellent chandlery and is also right next to the ferry terminal.   In addition to being a chandlery, it has a fine selection of boating clothing and fishing gear.   Across the street is Powell River Outdoors which has a great selection of fishing equipment and offers rentals of fishing equipment and paddle boards.  Mitchell’s provides rentals of canoes and kayaks.

Within easy walking distant of the marina are several great restaurants.  The closest is Thaida Zone offering a Thai cuisine. Be aware their hottest level is seriously hot. Base Camp coffee provides excellent coffee and a great food.   This is a very nice coffee shop and you must visit the washroom, it is amazing.   Across the street is Coastal Cookery providing an upscale pub experience.   Back to the other side of the street is Costa del Sol offering Latin and Mexican food.   This is a quaint little restaurant with great food and killer margaritas.   Little Hut Curry serving wonderful northern Indian dishes in a small friendly restaurant is a short walk down Marine Ave.  Other restaurants in walking distance are Rocky Mountain (Breakfast and Lunch), Modern Peasant (Lunch and Dinner), Culaccino Modern Italian (lunch and dinner), 32 Lakes (Coffee), Genki Sushi and Snickers (Greek).  These are all Marine Avenue within a kilometre of the marina.   A great selection of quality restaurants within a short walk.

If you have transportation and want to go a little farther afield, around 5K, in Townsite you can stop at our local craft brewery, Townsite Brewing, for a pint or two in their tasting room.   Across the street in Townsite Mall is the Hearth and Grain Bakery for wonderful sour dough bread and pastries.   In Cranberry you can find Magpie’s Diner serving large helpings of delicious comfort food for breakfast and lunch.
